7 Steps To Keep Your Taco Game Strong

After holiday season, we're emotionally and financially drained. This is the time to muster the courage to keep cooking.

The ultimate peasant food, tacos have endless adaptations. If you're in need of some winter sustenance, a slowly braised beef or pork dish transformed into Taco Tuesday will help keep you wallet and your culinary talents sharp.

But tacos are equally vegan and even gluten-free friendly. So keep your preferred version of protein available at all times. We like pickled cactus or sauteed mushrooms.

Here's what else you need to make tacos at home, for breakfast, lunch, in a box, with a fox or for dinner:

1. Tortillas. This should be obvious. Some people like white corn, some prefer yellow. Some like flour tortillas. But no one likes hard shell. Those are nachos.

2. Scallions + white onions. These should just always be in your fridge. Add them to your grocery list if they're not already.

3. Cilantro. Only if you're genetically inclined to like the stuff. We do. It's that ingredient that makes restaurant guac so much better. It's also the finishing touch on any classic taco.

4. Avocados. Okay, these are not absolutely necessary but who doesn't love a fresh spoonful of guacamole with their bistec or carnitas?

5. Radishes. These are for those of you who Insta your food pics. That crisp bite of bitter radish and a beautiful pop of pink make radishes a necessary evil.

6. Hot sauce of choice. If you're asking us, we love something dangerous like this or Cholula.

7. Limes. Whole ones. A fresh wedge on your plate for that taco truck goodness.
