Try This At Home: Brooklyn BBQ Party

You know it’s going to be a good night when you text your best friend: “Bring pickles and whiskey.”

Want a last minute dinner party idea the cows (your friends) will come home to? Go with barbecue. It’s really fun to eat and inexpensive to produce a beautifully balanced and colorful meal. There’s something about eating smoked meat that feels like a celebration.

I picked up some potato rolls, coleslaw and potato chips on my way home from work at the last minute and then hobbled home with about 20 pounds of smoked Iowa swine in my bag, ready to ascend into barbecue heaven.

“Why did you have so much meat in your bag on your way home from work? That is really strange,” you might be saying to yourself at the current mo. Well, it’s because my dear Iowa friend sent me pulled pork in the mail that he received from a local farmer and then smoked in his vaulted smoker at home. Yes, really. He also sent me ribs, but those are for a whole other kind of party.

No one went hungry last night. A squishy bun, some crunchy coleslaw and sour pickles rounds out the perfect barbecue sandwich. A glass of rye doesn’t hurt.
